Jaro’s Christmas: training, kids and no diet

Jaroslav Kulhavý s dárky pro děti z dětského domova v PoštějněChristmas, the resting period after the hectic season, Jaroslav spends at home in Usti nad Orlici as always. On Christmas day – December 24th – he had pleasant program.

In the morning, despite not very favorable weather, Jaro did light 100 kilometers road training. In the afternoon he loaded his Alhambra with the gifts for the children and went to the children’s home in Potštejn.

“As a winner in Best biker category of Czech cycling awards I got a voucher for the goods from Specialized. But I’m perfectly secure by this brand, so I decided to give it somebody, who needs it more. I chose eight helmets and other cycling accessories, because the children are actively involved in cycling, “said Jaroslav.

“Christmas for me are the same as in previous years. I didnt make any special wish, because I allready have what I want or need. When I was little, I was looking forward to a lot of gifts, of course, but now it’s more about nice time with my family.” he added, looking forward to a planned break of his diet. Fried carp, potato salad and cookies is traditional meal what was served as a Christmas dinner.

“I know that I will be wrong, because overeating. I am not going to be shy, I will eat anything. No limits on Christmas! 🙂 ” Jaro says.

Athlete of the Year 2012 – second place

Jaroslav Kulhavý znovu druhý v anketě Sportovec rokuLike last year, mountain biker Jaroslav Kulhavy took second place in prestigious poll Czech Athlete of the Year.

In eyes of sport jurnalists was Jaroslav beaten by woman javelin thrower Barbora Špotáková, who defended her olympic gold medal. Four Czech olympic winners from London games made this years voting tough.

“I am satisfied with my second place. At least I defenden the title of the best Czech sportsman, because last seven years the women athletes rules this poll. Bára had a great year. She won not only the olympics but also Diamond League and other competitions. It is difficult to compare four olympic gold medals in different sports.” said Jaroslav.

First training camp in Gran Canaria

First training camp for season 2013 is running at these days in Gran Canaria. Jaroslav together with his coach Viktor Zapletal puts first hundreds of kilometers on his account in perfect sunny and warm weather which is so different to Czech Republic.

“It’s like a maintenance just before Christmas, because I don’t want to be shy at the Christmas table… :-)” Jaro jokes.
“I’m spending about four hours a day on a roadbike, but here is quite hilly terrain. And I’m also doing a second part of training everyday which is running or a gym.” says Jaroslav.

“Jaroslav rides ten days in low intensity but without any significant recovery time. Daily he climbs up about 2.000 vertical meters.” talked Viktor Zapletal.
Jaroslav will come back home on Monday 17th December and his program will continue two days later when he is taking part of Athlete of the Year 2012 ceremony.

Jaroslav made the decision: Mountain Bikes!

Jaroslav is going to race on mountain bike. Olympic gold medalist from London 2012 extends his contract with Specialized Racing team for next two years, even there was a chance to skip into road cycling and let the dreams come true.

“I made the final decision about mountain bikes last Friday. I got very nice offer from my current team Specialized Racing and I didn’t want to wait anymore. I am very happy with the conditions of this contract. Road cycling, or compete the Tour de France, has always been my dream, but I’m standing with my feets on the ground. Now I am focusing on next four years as a mountainbiker and I would like to defend my Olympic title in Rio 2016. Maybe after that, there will be some time to try road cycling.” said Jaroslav on todays press conference.

The interest about Jaroslav from highest road league was confirmed by Jaro’s manager Zdeněk Löffelman.
“I can’t tell from which team, but it was one riding Specialized bicycles. Unfortunately the dealing tooks too much time and Jaroslav’s and my deadline was set to the end of November.” told Löffelman.
Jaro’s training schedule starts on Saturday when he leaves to Gran Canaria for first training camp.
