“Home” World Cup Nové Město – DNF.

26th May 2014

Disappointment and anger, that was the end of one of the season´s peak of Jaroslav Kulhavy. He didn´t finish the home race of the MTB World Cup in Nove Mesto na Morave. In the roaring Vysocina Arena he was riding around the third place behind the leader Nino Schurter, but then the technical problems came. First flat tire and after replacing the rear wheel, the problems with the chain….

“I don´t know what to say. I started quite well, Nino rode up just in the starting lap, but I was getting closer to them up to 12 seconds. But then the defect came and that meant practically the end of the race for me. After replacing the wheel in the tech zone I fell somewhere to the twentieth place. I was trying hard but then other problems appeared and then I was blocked by my head. I wasn´t able to get back to the front again. But the main reason of my failure was the flat tire in the second lap, which could have been my fault. I´m sorry that I was not successful here, in addition when I felt well,” said after cooling down visibly disappointed Jaroslav, who was encouraged by thousands of spectators along the track. “The atmosphere was incredible again. It can be compared perhaps only with the Olympic race in London,” he added thanking his fans and organizers.

Big upset. These were Jaroslav’s feelings after Garda Bike Marathon, which took a place on the sides of the popular Lake Garda in Italy.

“When I finally reached the top of the final climb together with Kristian Hynek, I knew I had to win. That was only about 10 kilometers before the finish and I was faster in that downhill sections than Kristian,” said Jara with bronze medal hanging around his neck.

“The track was poorly marked. After few minutes, we met with Kristian and other guys somewhere else. Lots of us got lost there and It took me about three minutes. After almost five hours of racing, It’s been disapointing. It’s a shame.” told Jaro after his first year’s marathon, which was won by Swiss Urs Huber .

The tough course named Ronda Extrema its length resembled last year’s marathon world championships – measured 94 km and 3800 altitude meters of climbing.

“Otherwise it was a pretty tough race. Descents were wet and quite technical after yesterday’s rain. I didnt feel in the best shape even with the broken rib and jetlag from Australia, but I was still up front even though there were many of good marathon racers,”

Trentino region is Jaroslav’s popular destination . “I really like it here. I rest a bit here in the past few days after the long journey from Australia, had a good battle today and tomorrow I will have a nice training in the surrounding hills before I will go back home.” said a member of the Specialized Racing team.
