The stage hattrick – Jara a Susi won the longest stage

18/03/2015

Jaroslav Kuhavy and Christoph Sauser, racing for the Investec-Songo-Specialized team, won the third and the longest stage of this year Cape Epic. 128 kilometres from the Oak Valley to Worcester they mastered in 5:01:17h. and added 25 seconds to the lead of the overall standing. But not everything went smoothly in a challenging African terrain and Jara and Susi had to deal with another defect and subsequently eliminate a slight loss.

“It must have been a nail or something. We were looking for the hole, but it was stuck by the sealant, so we only put a little cartridge there. We were immediately informed that we had the loss of a minute and a half and it was quite clear that everybody in the front group is interested in full riding because there were the Topeak Ergon and the Bulls teams. But in five kilometres we managed to reach them. Then I sprinted to the feed-zone with a little lead to have the time to replace the wheel. We didn´t lose a lot,” described Jara small technical problems. They didn´t hesitate long with the attack on a stage hat-trick.

“12 kilometres before the finish we were crossing a long rocky dam and I started to attack and Christoph hitched me. Since that moment we were riding at the maximum till the end…. It was pretty hard, we were grilled, it was very hot, but we didn´t want to leave the attack till the finish, because we did not know how it looked like there,” said Jara adding that the Quarq system showed him the power of 450 – 500 watts.

The second stage victory and next minutes for good

17/03/2015

The second long stage, the second winning and the six and three-quarter lead in the running results. Such was the third day of the South African Absa Cape Epic race in the performance of the Investec-Songo-Specialized team of Christoph Sauser and Jaroslav Kulhavy.

“Today we watched the stage´s beginning, we didn´t want to let anybody to leave. Somewhere in the middle of the biggest climbing we appeared at the front together with the Topeak. There was a little gap behind us, so we decided with Kristian to try it. Today it was often about the single-tracks. We didn´t want to risk and because we rode carefully, the Meridy and the Bulls teams reached us. Which wasn´t very likeable. But then the terrain changed, there were fewer technical down-hills and we started to ride on power. I got on the top and rode 40 kilometres. At the last feed-zone we left the Topeak, because Lakata wanted to drive his own space and then we even increased our lead,” described Jaroslav today´s 92km long windy stage. They won with the lead of 2:18 before the Topeak Ergon team of Kristian Hynek and Alban Lakata.

“I was riding in a perfect mood and I am happy about it. We did a good job and added some interesting time and we will not have to worry about the possible small defects. Of course everything is opened till the very last day, anything can happen. I vividly remember the moment from two years ago when we lost 20 minutes in three days. The lead is nice, motivation is super, but it is far from finishing,” he added.

Results of the 2nd stage:
1. Investec Songo Specialized – Jaroslav Kulhavy/Christoph Sauer time 4:06:50 h.
2. Topeak Ergon – Kristian Hynek/Alban Lakata +2:18 min.
3. Multivan Merida José Antonio Hermida/Rudiv van Houts +5:58 min.

Current standings:
1. Investec Songo Specialized time 9:41:12 h.
2. Bulls +6:44 min.
3. Topeak Ergon +6:56 min

The victory in the first stage and the yellow jersey

16/03/2015

Jaroslav Kulhavy and Christoph Sauser have the yellow jersey of the leaders after the first stage of the Cape Epic! The Investec-Songo-Specialized team won the 113km long stage near the Oak Valley with the lead of 51 seconds on the second team of Bulls and moved in the current leadership.

“Today at the beginning, it seemed that nobody wanted to attack. In the downhill we, together with Merida and Bullsama, rode away and I tried to torn the group. At the highest point of the track it was not so much, but when going down we definitively stayed alone with Karl Platt and Urs Huber. But when we wanted to leave them Christoph had a flat tire. We fixed it and at the tech zone we changed the wheel, but we lost one or two seconds. Meanwhile the Bulls got back about a minute in front of us. But we were in a better condition, we managed to overtake them and they were not able to keep with us…,” commented Jara today´s stage. It was the hilliest stage in this year race and it started with the 20km climb in a rough rocky terrain to the top of Groenladnberg. After the technical downhill, where f. ex. Emil Lindgren finished with the broken elbow, the famous single tracks started but also the rain. “46 second lead doesn´t mean anything, but I am glad that we were able to win the stage and we have shown that we are in a good condition.” Jara added.

For tomorrow the 92km long race is scheduled with the elevation of 2300m.

Results of the 1st stage:
1. Investec-Songo-Specialized – Christoph Sauser/Jaroslav Kulhavy, time 4:47:39 h.
2. Bulls – Karl Platt/Urs Huber, +51 sec.
3. Multivan Merida – José Antonio Hermida/Rudi van Houts, + 1:14 min.

Current results:
1. Investec-Songo-Specialized – Christoph Sauser/Jaroslav Kulhavy
2. Bulls – Karl Platt/Urs Huber, +46 sec.
3. Multivan Merida – José Antonio Hermida/Rudi van Houts, +1:33 min.

The third place in the opening prologue of the Absa Cape Epic

15/03/2015

Jaroslav Kulhavy together with Christoph Sauser started the stage race ABSA Cape Epic at the third place. In a quick 20 kilometre long prologue at the foot of the Table Mountain, the Investec-Songo-Specialized team lost 23 seconds on the best duo Giger-Gujan.

“Today I have to say that I felt pretty good and the prologue suited me. Therefore I tried to help Christoph, who didn´t like the sharp rises. We were perfect in the down-hills and we gained some time again. The loss on the yellow jersey is acceptable, Giger and Gujan are specialists in cross country and the race is only starting…,” said Jara after the prologue. Together with the team he moved to the first camp in Oak Valley. Tomorrow, twelve hundred bikers will start 113km long stage with the elevation of 2800 metres from here.

Prologue results:
1. Novous OMX Pro – Fabian Giger/Martin Gujan, time 0:46:18 h.
2. Bulls – Karl Platt/Urs Huber, +18 sec.
3. Investec-Songo-Specialized – Christoph Sauser/Jaroslav Kulhavy, +23 sec
